Leadership
in an organization has become an essential for the success of the institute.
Therefore leadership is a major cause for the performance of the institute;
either to be successful in the administration or be unsuccessful in doing so.
Leadership
Archetype Questionnaire (LAQ) as a tool, is designed to mold leaders upon eight
principles which are, “strategist, change-catalyst, builder, innovator,
processor, coach, communicator and transactor” (Kets De Vries, 2010).
Efficiency
of the leaders is determined by the composition of the team of leaders in terms
of individual variances, role and involvement (Belbin, 1996; 2003).
Belbin
(2003) witnessed this fact about the LAQ and he distinguished nine roles of the
leaders which make them to be effective in their functioning. The roles
included; shaper, implementer, resource investigator, plant, monitor,
evaluator, coordinator, completer and team worker.
It
is absolutely true that leadership positions or people with intentions of
becoming leaders belong to a self-selected group and therefore not all people
can come to be leaders. Ket de Vries (2006) notes that there are limited people
with self-defeating, dependent, depressive or detached characters.
He
notes that some leaders be unsuccessful in their management of duties due to
their behaviors. This is especially right because the leaders act as an example
to rest of the members and character will significantly affect others.
The
author cites that no leader can stand in isolation and therefore every single
member requires the support of one another.
The
writers of the article are justified to conclude that leadership behavior is
highly complex transformation in which many factors contribute to it. This is
because the leadership behavior cannot be studied in isolation from other
factor such as genetic predisposition and social influences.
It
is clear that the LAQ will assist the leaders in assessing the roles of the
administrative in order to come across the challenges that may be encountered
in the organization.
After
reading the article about LAQ, leaders are to be expected to optimize their
collaboration with their followers after understanding their behavioral
preference and behavior in leadership.
Conclusion
Teams
working together will help in maximum productivity from employees as they try
to develop healthy competition. Finally, organizing teams will let the
organization to associate the different team goals into a single goal for the
organization.
