Why it is important for an organization

Talent management is integrating with talent planning and development. In fact it is relatively new concept in the global context. Furthermore it has delivered from the phase of “War for talent” When it comes to talent management.

However o’Reilly and Preffer(2000) point out that companies that adopt a ‘talent war” mindset may place too much value on outsiders.

Global Practice (Unilever)

Unilever utilizes management development (MD) as a vital tool to help the organization meet it’s short and long-term goals. In recent years, Unilever has undergone a process of quick change and MD has been significant in conveying that change through the organization and equipping staff to manage it. Key features that have made the MD program work in this manner for Unilever were: joint ownership and duty; recognizable proof of talent at all levels; explicit incorporation of own desires; organization interests can take precedence over group interests; one framework around the world; performancedevelopment related pay; and total transparency. In addition, performance development planning is highlighted as a major component of the program.
